The Confessions of a Bibliophile – The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Another recent read is The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. The novel was film adapted last year, I have not seen it yet but heard it is worth watching.

The novel is set in the early 1990s and is narrated by “Charlie” through the letters he is writing to an anonymous stranger. Charlie is a freshman that is intelligent beyond his years and an unconventional thinker, although he is shy and unpopular in school. He reads a lot, mostly American classics that I myself have enjoyed reading and there were two books mentioned that I have put on my own reading list; The Fountainhead by Ayn Rand and Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs.

  6. Love that quote. I think a lot of people struggle with leaving where they came from behind, though, unfortunately. It takes a lot of personal insight and strength to learn what we can about where we came from and who we are as a result of that..and then move forward. :)

  14. Hey Amanda,
Thanks for the suggested reading, I probably wouldn't have picked it up otherwise, but totally loved it!! You can't help but be drawn in by Charlie's naiveté and yet thoughtful insight. He is tragic but heart warming, sincere but detached.
Loved the quotes you chose, I also liked "standing on the fringes of life... offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor."
Look forward to your next suggestion.
