A Bibliophile's confessions; Nobel Prize Laureates

I have set the goal of reading works by every Nobel Prize laureates in fiction and those are the two latest examples; Herta Müller and Mario Vargas Llosa.

The title of the novel by Herta Müller is The Land of Green Plums in English and depicts the life of young people living in a totalitarian state under the Soviet rule. The language is good but requires full concentration as it is full of time shifts and images.

The Bad Girl is obviously inspired by Madame Bovary, although I believe Margo Vargas Llosa is slightly more of an opportunity seeker. It is a fascinating story of a man's obsession with the bad girl spanning over decades while she moves from man to man, country to country always landing on her feet through tumultuous times. I really enjoyed his writing and The Feast of the Goat is on my holiday reading list, cannot wait to get more time to read.
