Upcoming travels.

My apologies for the hiatus, have been stuck in the hamster wheel lately, but luckily there is some light at the end of the tunnel. In a bit over a month we are flying to Sydney! Or rather i should say we are going to Australia as we have friends and family all over the place that we are planning to visit, really cant wait and I am counting the days!

When we get home, it will be a month and a half before we head to Japan. Mr will leave earlier to go snowboarding in Hokkaido, and then I will meet up with him in Tokyo. Been wanting to see Tokyo for so long, it seems quite addictive.

And then, a month and a half after Tokyo it is time for Moscow, I am a bit of a Russophile and I loved St. Petersburg so expectations are high. But this is May and quite far in the future, but I am so glad to have some travels lined up.

My new job

And yes, it has now been over a month at my new job as a Lead Negotiator and I have fallen into place at my new workplace and am getting a hang of it.
My colleagues are a friendly bunch and I guess I have figured out what makes you popular in the office; bring sweets (preferably homebaked cake) and volunteer for the extra 5 km no one else wanted to run in the yearly relay race.

A small cottage in the Finnish forest

Next we headed a couple of hours north to stay in a cute little cottage in the middle of the Finnish forest.

We could go fishing, here is Margaret fishing from a rock while being hit on by random guys in boats.
Stand-off with a duck, they came by several times a day to get fed and would eat out of your hands.
A duck is inspecting the birch whips Matti made for the night's sauna.
Iggy is working it.
Another day we went berry picking, there were wild raspberries, loganberries and heaps of blueberries.
Never play a Finnish drinking game, it doesn't really matter what you do, you'll have to drink.

And then Matti changed darts to knives just to make the weekend even more authentic Finnish.

Flow festival

Saturday we were heading to the Flow festival, below are the attempts of hiding some beverages, which appears to be a national sport in Finland, that and wife-carrying.

A blurry photo of Mr. and I. Oh, and Louise, you can buy the skirt here.

I love Jens Lekman's first two albums, but he did a bit too much sing and songwriter storytelling this time.

My Bloody Valentine, amazing and amazingly loud, so good.

And then a teen age dream came true and I got to see Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds live, albeit quite far from the stage.

Sorry for the long exposure times, but it had gotten quite dark as it was around midnight.
And of course a pizza stop around 3 am on the way home, great day but I am really not used to staying up late these days!

02 September 2013

It feels like autumn has officially arrived, but I have still so many photos from this summer so I better get started.

We arrived to Helsinki Friday afternoon and had a relaxing evening with hipsters all ages trying to plan our Saturday schedule at the Flow festival.
Up bright and early Saturday morning, the kids were heading to their grandparents and we to the festival, but before then Mr. and I headed out for some sightseeing.
We stopped by the rock church, quite interesting architecture.

And then walked by Kiasma, a modern art museum in the middle of Helsinki.
Senate square, Helsinki is beautiful with a lot of Art Deco and Art Noveau architecture.

The white cathedral, and Louise, my skirt is from H&M, and so is the rest of the outfit, the necklace and bracelet is from the Marimekko and H&M collaboration back in 2008.

We met up with our friends at the Market square for some traditional, Finnish meat doughnuts, quite tasty and so were the sweet, raspberry ones.
En route to the festival!

Costume sale

It is no secret that I love a bargain and shopping at flea markets and am always on the lookout for new opportunities. Yesterday I got an e-mail from the Royal Theater in Copenhagen announcing that they will be selling our costumes today and tomorrow.
The picture below is from My Fair Lady and I would assume it is the scene from the Ascot, maybe I will find another crazy hat! Mr. and I are going there together after work today.
Next week it is time again as Designers Remix are having another of their biannual popup outlets, I can really recommend it as one can purchase items in silk and cashmere for very competitive prices.
